Cataloguing Rare Materials (2015- )

An in-house project in the context of the digitization of several pieces of the rare materials collection, as well as making the metadata available to and searchable for both scholars and the general public via our online catalogue.

My main tasks on this project are:

  • Work out a strategy with head of department for the cataloging process and make suggestions for the description of the various materials in Aleph.
  • Cataloging and import of metadata for the architectural collection, the photo collection and the postcard collection.
  • Follow up the project closely and report to head of department.
  • Back-up for cataloging the other collections within the Rare Materials Collection.

Past Projects

Project Abraham (2013)

Abraham is an online catalogue of Belgian Newspapers printed between 1830-1950. Several Flemish Heritage Libraries and other smaller institutes from Flanders and Brussels worked together to create one of the biggest repositories of digitized newspapers covering a period from 1830 to 1950.

My main tasks on this project were:

  • Assist project-assistant and cataloguer who checks and catalogues the newspaper collection of the Ghent University Library in Abraham. (Software: Brocade)
  • Check and correct metadata of the newspaper collection of the Ghent University Library in Aleph where necessary. (Software: Aleph)
  • Follow up the project closely.
